APA Ethical Principles
The APA (American Psychological Association) has set five main ethical principles to guide psychologists in their work. These include caring for others and avoiding harm (Beneficence and Nonmaleficence), being trustworthy and responsible in all professional roles (Fidelity and Responsibility), staying honest and accurate (Integrity), treating everyone fairly (Justice), and respecting each person’s rights and dignity (Respect for People’s Rights and Dignity). These principles help psychologists maintain high standards and ensure that clients, participants, and communities are treated with care, respect, and fairness in all psychological practices.
