Wisconsin Card Sorting Test
Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) is a widely used neuropsychological assessment tool that evaluates a person’s executive functions, particularly cognitive flexibility, problem-solving, and the ability to shift strategies. In this test, individuals are asked to match response cards to reference cards based on changing rules (color, shape, or number), without being told the rule. Feedback is given after each attempt, requiring the participant to adapt to new patterns. The WCST is especially useful in assessing frontal lobe function and is commonly used with individuals who may have brain injuries, schizophrenia, or developmental disorders.
