Token economies

Token economies are a type of behavioral modification system based on the principles of operant conditioning. In this approach, individuals receive tokens (such as points, chips, or stickers) as reinforcement for displaying desirable behaviors. These tokens can later be exchanged for rewards like privileges, treats, or other desired items. Token economies are commonly used in classrooms, psychiatric settings, and behavior therapy programs, especially with children or individuals with developmental disorders. The system helps shape and maintain positive behaviors, offering a structured and motivating environment. It is considered effective due to its consistency, clarity, and immediate feedback.
